CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Mass VaxBus returned to Chicopee on Monday. The bus had it's first stop in the morning to Wisniowski Park.
"I am vaccinated fully now, so I am really excited about that," said Edwin Esteva.
Esteva lives near the park and was able to acess the bus easily. The mobile vaccination site is making it's second lap through Western Massachusetts to give people their second dose.
"I have no transportation so having access to the mobile vehicle bus is absolutely essential to the people who don't have transportation," said Esteva.
The bus has traveled from Pittsfield to Worcester to Chicopee and is trying to make sure the coronavirus vaccine is accessible to everyone. It has Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson doses available.
"We are getting into communities like this right here where people cant get out and don't have the means to get to a CVS or Walgreens or mass vaccination site or something like that or they don't have the time to schedule an appointment," said Shaun Alger, an EMT who is helping out on the bus.
Teams have administered hundreds of shots, helping contribute to the 63% of residents in Massachusetts who are fully vaccinated and the 71% of residents in the state who have received at least one shot.
"Just think of your family," Alger said. "If you have elders at home, kids at home, handicap at home, if there's immunocompromised people that you don't know. Just think of your fellow human."
"It's important to me, to my community and the Spanish community," Esteva said. "I feel that the more we get educated about the vaccine, the better it is for our wellbeing."
Along with the VaxBus, the state is still encouraging people to get vaccinated with the Mass VaxMillions giveaway. Anyone 18 and older who is fully vaccinated can enter for their chance at $1 million, and those who are under 18 can enter for a chance to win a scholarship.
