PITTSFIELD, Mass. - When staff at the Pittsfield Christian Center returned to work on Tuesday morning after the long holiday weekend, they found the lock on their storage shed pried open, and several pieces of equipment which were inside are missing.

What You Need To Know

  •  Several pieces of landscaping equipment were stolen from the Pittsfield Christian Center
  • The equipment was used to maintain the property and to be loaned to people in need
  • It will cost roughly $1,000 to replace everything which was stolen
  • Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Christian Center or the Pittsfield Police Department

"As we looked in, we discovered that our lawnmower, our weed whacker, our leaf blower, and we also had a bunch of tents in there that were taken," said the Christian Center's food director, Karen Ryan.

The break-in is especially frustrating because the Center uses the equipment to maintain their large property, and they also loan out some of the items to people in need.

“When people call us and say like, ‘Hey, we need a refrigerator,’ we will post that on Facebook. We will reach out to some of our donors, our families, and we will try to help anyone,” said Ryan. “So if you need anything, please don’t take from us, we will make sure that you get it.”

Ryan estimated it will likely cost about $1,000 to replace everything, and they’ve already bought new security cameras to monitor the property.

Still, the Center will do their best to ensure those expenses won’t impact their daily services.

“We’re going to keep plugging along like we do every day and our doors are open,” said Ryan. “We have the food pantry and the boutique, and we serve lunch every day. We’re not going to let this get in the way of helping our people.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Christian Center or the Pittsfield Police Department. The Christian Center is also accepting donations to help pay for replacing the equipment which was lost.
