WORCESTER, Mass. - Worcester Police Officer Enmanuel “Manny” Familia passed away on Friday after trying to save a teenager from drowning in Green Hill Pond.
Hundreds of Worcester police officers walked through the doors of Saint John’s church to pay their respects to Familia during calling hours on Wednesday.
Hundreds more from police departments across the Commonwealth did the same.
Many members from the Worcester Fire Department also paid their respects on Wednesday. The department is unfortunately no stranger to loss as the WFD has experienced two line of duty deaths in the last two and a half years, and nine total since 1999.
Also attending the service was the family of fallen Auburn Police Officer Ronald Tarentino, Jr., who was killed in the line of duty five years ago.
From start to finish, there was a steady flow of law enforcement and residents paying their respects to Officer Familia.
