  • The goal of the Toy Drive Concert is to make sure every kid has a gift this Christmas season

  • Last year there was over 6,000 toys gathered

  • The Christmas Toy Drive Concert is Saturday, Dec. 7. Admission is an unwrapped toy

It’s a concert for a good cause. Founding member of Hush Harbor Scott Shearman says the Christian rock band loves doing concerts for all kinds of reasons, but the best reason is to help kids in need.

“When you’re a kid and you’re not even gonna get a toy for Christmas, it’s really tough,” said Shearman.

Shearman says some families don’t have to ability to register their kids with organizations that help families in need.

“There’s kids that fall through the cracks. And that’s where we’re trying to kind of fill those spots. You know, kids that aren’t going to get anything,” said Shearman.

Hush Harbor is partnering with Voice of Truth Church for the second year of their Christmas Toy Drive Concert. Last year, they gathered over 6,000 toys. Pastors Laura and Daniel Gex say that it’s all about helping the kids in the community.

“It’s not just coming here and being a church and gathering here. It’s actually getting outside and making a difference in the community,” said Daniel Gex.

“Just a stocking filled with some goodies will be a bigger blessing then people know,” said Laura Gex.

Shearman says the out pour has been amazing. They even have volunteers to collect toys.

“We’ve had people mail toys in. It’s been great. Like, Amazon will show up and go. I’ll get a call upstate: ‘Hey, we got more toys.’ Great. Put them in the bin, that’s awesome,” said Shearman.

Shearman and the Gexs hope people understand that there are a lot of kids in need, not just around the holidays but all the time.

“I think it’s real reflective of our community. You know, we’re really blessed in this part of the country, to have such caring, loving people, businesses,” said Shearman.

The Christmas Toy Drive Concert is Saturday, Dec. 7. Santa Claus will be in attendance, dinner starts at 5 p.m. and the concert is at 7 p.m. Admission is an unwrapped toy.
